I’m not trying to talk down on myself, but I still feel bad about the fact that I’m doing something that I know is going to hurt someone I care about. There is no way that I’m going to stop feeling that way about something I did, but that doesn’t make it any less bad.
In my view, we need to have these sorts of feelings about bad things. Not because we’re necessarily wrong, but because we’re learning to be less judgmental about our own bad behavior. A bad thing that we make a mistake on is far less likely to have repercussions for us. It’s important to feel bad, but it’s equally important to feel good about how we feel.
I think this is a good idea. I don’t think we should be overly sensitive about bad things. We should be able to feel bad that we caused bad things to happen, but I think it’s important for us to feel good that we did something good, or at least not so bad that it makes people avoid us or shun us.
