shlumped
The term shlumped is one that many of our friends and co-workers have heard. It is a term that is used to describe a bumpy, lumpy, bumpy lump that has been formed by the force of gravity from the bottom upwards. Some people who are more than aware of the meaning of shlumped are a little surprised to hear that this term is used to describe the process of making an album.
Shlumped is one of those words that seems to have people all over the place.
Well, the term shlumped is used to describe the process of making an album. A lot of people who make music don’t know that the term shlumped actually comes from the phrase shlumped head, which means to put something into a head that will make a good face. As soon as I saw the word shlumped I knew I had to try and make it work.
I had to Google it to find out why it is used, but the first thing that came up was a video clip of a guy saying it in an interview. The guy was talking about how he was able to make the same sort of album using an old pair of scissors and a bottle of rubbing alcohol. The thing that I thought was awesome was that he put that bottle of rubbing alcohol in the head of a bottle of toilet paper.
Sounds a little far fetched, but I actually found the idea of using a bottle of toilet paper as a face-shaping tool really intriguing. Granted, I’d probably have to cut my own head off before I would be able to use it, but I’m sure someone out there would be very interested in trying this out.
This one is a little more real, but also a little more creepy. This week, the folks at the American Library Association (ALA) gave the thumbs-up to the newest version of the ebook reading software called Kindle. The ALA released a statement saying: “We congratulate Amazon.com on its announcement today that it has become the first eBook store to join the ALA, the trade association for the book industry.
Now, I’m not sure how I feel about this, but for me, the ALA statement made it sound like a positive move, and I’m always on the fence about this kind of stuff. I don’t think a lot of people should be on the fence about something that might actually do a lot of good, but I don’t really know what to think about this one since I can’t find any actual information about the Kindle itself or what the company is doing.
For me, I think the ALA statement itself was a positive move because it brings to the forefront the fact that eBooks are not just the creation of one person, but that people can actually have their own books made for them. I just think that people should not be put in boxes, and given that the Kindle is a device that has been designed specifically for this purpose, I don’t think it’s a good idea for the ALA to get involved in that.
They could have said, “Hey, Kindle users, you can have a book made for you by any author in the world.” That would certainly have been a more positive move for eBooks.
The ALA has already started the process of putting books on the shelves. There’s a lot of work to be done. The first step is that the ALA has a lot of users who are willing to pay for books directly, so they can print it, and that would be great for the whole process.
